What Participants Said

Yes: A majority, at 93% of ‘yes or no’ respondents, were in favor of allowing citizens to carry loaded firearms on snowmobiles.

  • “Yes... snowmobiles are used off-road! Most of off-road areas are populated by animals, therefore YES.”
  • “Yes. You never know when your life, the lives of your loved ones or the lives of your fellow citizens could be in danger.”
  • “[You’re] out in the middle of nowhere. All alone. You need basic survival equipment- a gun is one of them.”

No: The minority of ‘yes or no’ respondents, at 7%, opposed allowing citizens to carry loaded firearms on snowmobiles.

  • “No. It only increases the risk of more shootings.”
  • “Loaded firearms should not be carried on any type of motorized vehicle.”
  • “I know it's unfair to the responsible riders, but I've had a couple of run-ins with intoxicated drivers and the idea [that] one of them could have a loaded weapon is scary.”

Other: As noted above, 9% of those participating did not give a yes or no response, instead addressing their comments to related questions and issues. Most of these respondents expressed confusion about the current legal status of carrying firearms on snowmobiles:

  • “I have never heard [of] this. Can someone find any truth to this? If this is true can we still carry with clip out?”
  • “So basically if you have a CC [concealed carry license] you can carry a loaded pistol. If you don’t you can carry a pistol but it can’t be loaded.”
  • “I didn’t even know this was illegal to begin with. I’d expect this law out of Massachusetts, but not ‘live free or die’ New Hampshire.”
