Majority believe claims of voter fraud in NH - 390 participants, 1058 responses

On November 27 president-elect Donald Trump tweeted, "Serious voter fraud in Virginia, New Hampshire and California - so why isn't the media reporting on this? Serious bias - big problem!" Trump's team did not respond to media requests for proof of this claim. Read more about this issue. On November 28, Citizens Count, NH’s Live Free or Die Alliance decided to put the issue to its Facebook members, posting the question, “Do you believe Donald Trump's claims of widespread voter fraud in New Hampshire?”

Results: Yes or No Respondents

Participation:

A total of 82% of those participating gave a 'yes or no' response to the question. The remaining 18% of participants engaged in the discussion but did not give a yes or no response. In total, this question received 1,058 responses from 390 individuals. (Click here for details on our methodology.)

What Participants Said:

Yes: A majority, at 60% of ‘yes or no’ respondents, believed Donald Trump’s claims of widespread voter fraud in NH.

  • “NH's system is designed to be defrauded, and cases of documented fraud (just how many party operatives all registered to the same address?) are not prosecuted.”
  • “When you have boat loads of people registering the same day, you’ve got problems.”
  • “Voter fraud is a well-known fact. If we knew how much, I think we'd all be amazed.”

No: The minority of ‘yes or no’ respondents, at 40%, did not believe Donald Trump’s claims of widespread voter fraud in NH.

  • “Considering you have to show your driver's license to vote, I doubt it.”
  • “I don't believe voter fraud is widespread in NH. Most people are too lazy to vote once, never mind twice.”
  • “I've been voting in NH for 50 years. Was checklist supervisor in my town for 10 years. Nothing like this happens.”

Other: As noted above, 18% of those participating did not give a yes or no response, instead addressing their comments to related questions and issues. These included:

  • Election methodology: “Not every municipality uses electronic voting. Some still hand-count paper ballots.”
  • Donald Trump’s policies: “Actions speak louder than tweets, Mr. Trump.”
  • Questioning relevance: “Who cares? It’s all over but the crying already.”
