Steroid testing for state police?

Rep. J.R. Hoell is sponsoring a 2018 bill that would require random testing of state police officers for steroid use. Rep. Hoell sponsored a similar bill in 2016, which would have required steroid testing for many different law enforcement officers, including state corrections officers and probation-parole officers. Yes: 106 citizens were in favor of randomly testing state police for steroid use.

  • “All law enforcement officers should be randomly drug tested for steroids.”
  • “They should drug tested for everything just like you and me.”
  • “Yes only because anyone in a position of power, who carries a gun, has to be drug free, unless it's a prescribed drug such as insulin.”

No: 31 citizens were against randomly testing state police for steroid use.

  • “No. I think we should trust them to serve and protect.”
  • “Does not seem like it's a problem, and I don't think that's a good use of resources.”
  • “No. Does no harm. No mind altering affects.”

Other: 18 citizens addressed their comments to related questions and issues.
These included:  

  • Current policy: “Are they not already being drug tested?”
  • Drug tests for others: “They should test all elected officials.”
