On Monday, December 13 the state Site Evaluation Committee (SEC) approved nine wind turbines on Tuttle Hill and Willard Mountain.

Antrim Wind Energy proposed a ten turbine project on the same site in 2012. The SEC rejected that proposal, primarily due to negative environmental and aesthetic impacts.

Antrim Wind Energy then revised its proposal by removing one of the turbines and shortening another. The company will also donate money to conserve other land.

"It’s good news for New Hampshire, this is a project that is going to bring significant amount of investment and clean energy and conservation benefits to this region," said Jack Kenworthy of Walden Green Energy, the parent company of Antrim Wind Energy.

Opponents note that the project lies in the middle of roughly 13,000 acres of uninterrupted forest. Neighboring towns such as Stoddard will suffer the negative impacts on the environment without getting the tax revenue or other payments promised to Antrim.

Opponents of the wind turbines will have an opportunity to file a motion for the SEC to reconsider the project.
