Ban on GMO fish?

The debate surrounding GMOs garnered media attention recently after the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the first genetically engineered animal for human consumption- a salmon.

Known as the AquAdvantage Atlantic Salmon, it has the genetic material of two other fish plus some synthetic DNA added to its genetic structure. The fish is designed to grow at twice the rate or a normal salmon.

Supporters of a ban argue that the genetically modified fish could pose risks to the environment and trigger the death of the salmon industry.

Conversely, opponents of a ban argue that the FDA's approval came after comprehensive review, it is safe to eat, and there is no discernible difference to regular salmon in terms of nutritional value.

Please note that no legislation in NH has been proposed regarding this issue.
