Dartmouth tackles sexual assault, risky drinking

Amid increasing national headlines highlighting issues of sexual assault and alcohol abuse on college and university campuses, Dartmouth College is making changes.

While colleges and universities continue to seek solutions to growing reports of sexual assault and risky drinking, Dartmouth assembled a committee that worked for nine months to address these problems.

As a result, Dartmouth has banned hard liquor on campus, and is now in the throes of overhauling its housing system.

In order to create a stronger residential community, students entering Dartmouth beginning in 2019 will be assigned to "house communities," complete with a professor-in-residence.

Dartmouth has also implemented harsher punishments for sexual assault incidents, and is looking to begin a mandatory sexual violence program.

Additionally, sororities and fraternities, among other student-run organizations, will be subject to annual evaluations.
