Under current state law, it is illegal to carry a loaded rifle or shotgun in any vehicle.

A law to prevent poaching?

Supporters of New Hampshire's ban on carrying loaded long guns argue that it is a reasonable restriction to prevent poaching. It would be easier for hunters to trespass and hunt illegally if they could quickly shoot from a snowmobile or OHRV.

Other supporters have expressed concern about the safety of riding a snowmobile or OHRV with a loaded gun.

An infringement on 2nd Amendment rights?

Opponents of New Hampshire's current law argue that it violates the 2nd Amendment right to bear arms.

Opponents also note there will still be a law against poaching.
