On Monday, June 22 representatives of Eversource held a public meeting to discuss a proposed transmission line from Madbury to Portsmouth.

According to Eversource, the transmission line - called the Seacoast Reliability Project - is necessary to meet rising electricity demand on the seacoast.

After public feedback, Eversource has modified the proposal to bury power lines in several key locations, such as the historic Frink Farm in Newington.

However, many residents at Monday's meeting still expressed concern about the environmental and aesthetic impact of the transmission line.

"Shouldn't we instead be looking at more renewable energy resources rather than continue to build these invasive power lines and power plants?" asked state Rep. Judith Spang (D).

Eversource must apply to the state Site Evaluation Committee to move forward with the project.
