Get involved in Northern Pass process
The attorney appointed to represent the interests of the public in the Northern Pass approval process is holding five public workshops to identify the potential impact on scenic, historic, and cultural areas.
The Northern Pass is a proposed transmission line that would carry Canadian hydropower through New Hampshire.
According to a press release from the Attorney General, “Community members are invited to participate in structured workshops to identify places and areas of beauty, use, history, and tradition that are within ten miles of the proposed Northern Pass transmission corridor that may be affected by the NP Project.”
Anyone unable to attend a workshop can send information to Peter C.L. Roth, the attorney appointed to represent the interests of the public. Roth will incorporate the information from these workshops in his arguments before the Site Evaluation Committee (SEC), which is responsible for approving or denying the Northern Pass project.
These workshops present one of the last opportunities for the public to provide their input on the Northern Pass. The SEC must make a decision on the project by mid-December.
Supporters of the Northern Pass generally argue that the transmission line will bring much-needed, clean electricity and jobs to New England.
Opponents of the Northern Pass argue that any benefits are outweighed by long-term negative impacts on the environment and property values.
