On Thursday, April 12 Politico reported that President Trump is considering former New Hampshire Senator Kelly Ayotte as the next FBI director.

Trump and Ayotte have a tense history - Ayotte withdrew her endorsement after some of Trump's comments about women - but Ayotte gained favor in the White House after helping the nomination of Neil Gorsuch to the U.S. Supreme Court.

"She was attorney general of New Hampshire. And she has the experience. So I think she'd be a good candidate," said current Sen. Jeanne Shaheen.

Regardless of who Trump appoints to head the FBI, Shaheen still supports the appointment of a special prosecutor to investigate Russia's interference with the 2016 election.

Opponents of Ayotte's nomination argue that Trump should not choose any politicians for a law enforcement post.
