Keno vs. casino

The two-year budget proposal that Gov. Maggie Hassan presented to New Hamsphire law makers on Feb. 12 did not contain any revenue from casino gambling. Instead, it proposed $26 million over two years through keno gambling.

But that doesn't mean we've heard the last of casino gambling in the Granite State. There remains in this session of the Legislature a proposal from state Sen. Lou D'Allesandro (D-Manchester) to legalize two casinos in the state.

Will lawmakers favor keno? Will they favor casinos? Will they want both? Will they want neither? It remains an open question at this point. We know that casino proposals in the past have come up empty. While they have a history of Senate approval, they don't get past the House.

This is a first for a keno proposal.
