Lawmakers plan veto day
House Speaker Shawn Jasper has set Wednesday, September 16 as the tentative date for the legislature to vote on overriding Gov. Hassan's vetoes.
So far Gov. Hassan has vetoed twelve bills in 2015, including the state budget proposal. Two-thirds of the House and Senate must vote in favor to override a veto.
Here are some of the vetoes the legislature may try to override:
HB 332 - requires schools to notify parents at least two weeks before "course material involving discussion of human sexuality or human sexual education"
HB 603 - would allow students to opt-out of statewide assessments
SB 101 - explicitly gives school districts the power to reject the Common Core education standards
SB 116 - would allow a resident to carry a concealed firearm without a license
SB 169 - prohibits the use of EBT cards or cash from EBT cards for alcohol, tobacco, gambling, lottery tickets, tattoos, firearms, or adult entertainment
SB 179 - requires that a voter has lived in the state and county for at least 30 days
