Loaded firearms on ATVs, snowmobiles, boats?

Rep. Mark Proulx is sponsoring a 2017 bill that would allow drivers to carry a loaded rifle or shotgun while on an ATV, snowmobile, boat, or other vehicle.

Supporters of the Proulx’s bill argue that New Hampshire residents should not lose the 2nd Amendment right to openly carry a long gun just because they are on a snowmobile or ATV.

Iowa passed a law earlier this year to allow loaded long guns on ATVs and other recreational vehicles.  Some legislators voted in favor of the bill because it would make it easier for farmers to protect livestock from a vehicle.

Opponents were concerned about the chance of an accidental discharge in a collision or other accident.

Others are concerned that allowing riders to carry loaded long guns makes it more difficult to enforce the law that prohibits hunting from a snowmobile, ATV, or other vehicle.

Do you think drivers of recreational vehicles should be allowed to carry loaded long guns?  Let us know in the comments.
