Voters in Plaistow on Tuesday indicated strong opposition to the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority’s proposal to build a train station and layover yard in or near Plaistow.

In support of the proposed rail station were 226 voters, while 1,308 expressed their opposition.

Outside one polling station, residents expressed their opinions about the station through signs and comments. Those opposing the station cited fumes and noise, and those in favor noted how much easier their commutes would be to Boston.

Still others said that the town should wait to get the MBTA’s full report, which is currently being prepared, on options for extending commuter rail services before making a decision.
