Former U.S. Senator Scott Brown has confirmed that Trump is considering him for Secretary of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Scott Brown ran for U.S. Senate in New Hampshire in 2014 but lost to Jeanne Shaheen.  Prior to that, Brown served 35 years in the Army National Guard.  He represented Massachusetts in the U.S. Senate from 2010 to 2013.

Brown’s appointment could be big news for New Hampshire, which is the only state without a full-service VA hospital.

Trump and Brown both support expanding veterans’ access to private health care.  Right now the Veterans Choice Card allows veterans to seek care at a private hospital if they live far enough from a VA hospital.  However, the program is still new, and there have been some problems with both scheduling and payments.

Brown also said he would review the entire Veterans Affairs department, revoke some employee bonuses, and better staff the suicide hotline.
