In Manchester, a Central High School senior will be unable to take his 22-year old girlfriend to the school prom.

According to a school policy, which officials acknowledge is not written, people older than 21 cannot attend school proms.

The student and parents contend that the two met at work and have been dating for 8 months. Referring to the prom as the last opportunity for his friends and girlfriend to attend a school function together, the student claims the policy is discriminatory.

School officials, however, cite concerns regarding underage drinking. They also argue that a school policy cannot be circumvented regardless as to whether it is written or not.

In many states, including New Jersey and Missouri, school have adopted similar age-limit policies for proms.
