Two elected officials expressed skepticism over the value of the proposed natural gas pipeline at a public meeting in Rindge attended by over 600 people. The hearing was held as part of the public input process by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, which must approve the proposed Northeast Energy Direct Project, proposed by Kinder Morgan.

On Wednesday, April 20 Kinder Morgan announced it was suspending the Northeast Energy Direct pipeline through southern New Hampshire.

Kinder Morgan said too few natural gas shippers and buyers agreed to purchase space on the pipeline.

The pipeline also faced public opposition due to the potential negative impacts on the environment and property values.

A new report from WalletHub ranked New Hampshire 8th in the nation on energy costs.  

The report ranked states based on the average monthly consumption and average retail price of electricity, natural gas, home heating oil, and motor fuel.
