Federal transportation funding for maintenance of New Hampshire roadways has fallen by more than five percent in the years between 2008 and 2013. Additionally, the state's department of transportation spending has fallen by more than 16 percent over about the same period.

In 2015, 153 bridges were red-listed with the number predicted to rise to 170 in 2021 and nearly 190 in 2026. In addition, some water treatment plants and wastewater facilities in the state are upwards of 100 years old and have also been identified in need of repair.

This Thursday, March 23, the state Senate will vote on a bill to send $36.8 million to local road and bridge projects. 

The funds are intended to come from a projected surplus from the fiscal year ending in June.

Gov. Chris Sununu argued for the bill since his inauguration.

The bill, SB 38, uses $36.8 million from a projected surplus this year.
