Rep. Robert Hull is sponsoring a bill that would eliminate the smoking ban in New Hampshire restaurants, grocery stores, and privately owned buses and taxis. An owner could still choose to ban smoking on the premises if he or she chose.

Thursday, March 16 the Senate will vote on a bill that would add e-cigarettes to state initiatives preventing tobacco use.

Sen. David Watters is sponsoring SB 145, a 2017 bill that would make it a violation to smoke in a car with a passenger under the age of sixteen.  Law enforcement would only be able to enforce the law if they first cited the driver for another violation or offense. 

The violation would come with a $100 fine.

The Cheshire Coalition for Tobacco-Free Communities has worked with nine towns in western New Hampshire to ban smoking at outdoor recreation areas, such as parks.

This past week Maine became the fourth state to raise the purchasing age for cigarettes to twenty-one years-old.

255 counties and municipalities in fourteen other states also prohibit selling cigarettes to someone under age twenty-one.
